Praying for Peace in Jerusalem
Firebase Series: Week 4
Shabbat Shalom!
As Christian believers, grafted into God’s covenant family, we are called to pray for Jerusalem’s strength, protection, comfort, salvation, blessing, and peace. This is not just a duty but a privilege. An opportunity to stand as part with God’s covenant family, interceding for His chosen city. In return, God promises to bless us, our families, and our nation (Genesis 12:3)
Interestingly, during Jesus’ earthly ministry, He never made a public emphasis on “praying for Jerusalem’s peace.” Instead, His focus was on preaching, teaching, and healing; first to the Jews in Israel, fulfilling the law and bringing spiritual restoration. His mission was clear: to save and cleanse the nation from within before extending salvation to the whole world.
While God’s salvation was always meant for all people and nations (Genesis 3:15), Jesus, His son first brought this message to the Jews, fulfilling God’s covenant with Israel. It was only after He paid the ultimate price for all sins through His death on the cross that salvation became fully available to all mankind. Before ascending, He commanded His followers to spread the Gospel beginning in Jerusalem, then to Judea, and ultimately to the ends of the earth (Acts 1:8). This was an invitation for all to be part of God’s kingdom family.
Now, as believers grafted into God’s kingdom, we are joined in faith and purpose, answering the call to pray for Jerusalem. God has placed watchmen over this city (Isaiah 62:6), and we are part of that divine assignment. When we pray for Jerusalem, we align with God’s purposes and push back the enemy’s plans not just for Israel, but for the entire world. The peace of Jerusalem impacts global peace. Without it, darkness and chaos will gain ground, destroying everything.
Could it be that Jerusalem holds the prophetic timetable for the destiny of the earth? The Bible strongly suggests so! Jesus Himself declared that He will return and reign as King in Jerusalem in the coming Millennial Age (Zechariah 14:4, Revelation 20:4).
This is why praying for Jerusalem is more than a command. It’s an invitation to partner with God’s unfolding eternal plan for all nations.
Over the past two weekends, we ministered to Filipino overseas workers in Israel, a people uniquely assigned by the Israeli government to care for their vulnerable citizens. We see this as an opportunity to bless these comforters to the Jews, that they may also shine as a light. Many share testimonies of their employers recognizing that the church is not an enemy, but a source of love and truth. Praise God!
One such testimony is from Liza Reyno. She left the Philippines to escape her father, harboring years of pain and resentment. Her heart burned for the day she could confront and avenge him. But she surrendered to Jesus and chose forgiveness. Though she longed to visit home, she was repeatedly denied a visa. Two weeks ago, We were ministering when God filled her with strength and courage to face her past as a renewed daughter. The urgency to reconcile overwhelmed her. Days later, she shared to us how knowing faith has transformed her life. Three days after that, she received her long-awaited visa, a divine confirmation. She is now returning home, not for revenge, but to extend the same love and grace God gave her.
God’s love restores and heals us as we help others for their healing and restoration too.
